Stereo Mastering

Applying the final sonic polish to your mixed tracks to ensure consistent quality and professional impact across all listening environments.

High-end studio monitors placed symmetrically in a professionally treated acoustic room.

Mastering is the definitive final stage of music production. Unlike mixing, which focuses on the balance between individual instruments, mastering operates on the stereo file (the 2-mix) to optimize overall volume, tonal balance, and dynamic range. Since our establishment in 2018, Quemadozone has provided this critical finishing touch to a wide array of artists and producers within our Nagoya studio.

Our objective is to elevate your music to contemporary streaming and physical media standards while preserving the original emotional energy of the performance. Operating from a 120m² facility equipped with Nearfield monitors and professional acoustic treatment, we provide an objective perspective to ensure your final master sounds polished, competitive, and cohesive.

The Mastering Process

01

Analysis and Evaluation

We perform a deep technical analysis of your submitted mix. We examine frequency distribution, peak levels, and dynamic range to determine the optimal processing strategy based on your genre and goals.

02

Corrective EQ and Dynamics

We remove problematic frequencies and apply precise equalization to enhance clarity. Using high-end compressors and limiters, we secure the necessary loudness without sacrificing the track's punch.

03

Stereo Image Optimization

We refine the width and depth of the soundstage, ensuring a solid center image while maintaining a natural spread that translates well from headphones to large club systems.

04

Final Export and Validation

The track is rendered at your specified sample rate and bit depth. We conduct a final quality check across multiple monitoring environments to ensure zero digital clipping before delivery.

Who Is This Service For?

This service is designed for independent artists, producers, and engineers who have completed their mix but feel the result lacks "commercial weight" or professional loudness. It is particularly recommended for those working in home studios who require an objective, acoustically treated environment for the final sonic audit.

Additionally, mastering is essential for those releasing an EP or full-length album. We ensure "album coherence," meaning every track shares a consistent tonal balance and perceived volume, preventing the listener from having to adjust their volume knob between songs. We also specialize in optimizing tracks for the loudness standards of platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

Technical Approach and Methodology

At Quemadozone, we believe mastering is more than just increasing volume. We focus on the emotional flow of the music. By utilizing multi-band compression for frequency-specific control and saturation to add harmonic richness, we eliminate the "cold" digital feel and replace it with a dense, warm, and professional sound.

Special attention is paid to low-end phase management. We ensure that the bass remains stable and powerful even when played back in mono—a critical requirement for club systems, radio, and retail environments where mono compatibility can make or break a track's impact.

Client Preparation Checklist

To ensure the highest quality result, please provide your files according to the following specifications. The best results come from mixes that have sufficient "headroom" (they are not limited or clipped).

  • File Format: WAV or AIFF (uncompressed)
  • Sample Rate: 44.1kHz or higher (maintain the rate used during production)
  • Bit Depth: 24-bit or 32-bit float
  • Peak Levels: Ideally between -3dB and -6dB to allow space for processing
  • Reference Tracks: 1-2 commercially released songs that represent the sound you are aiming for

Deliverables and Outcomes

Upon completion of the mastering process, you will receive a digital package containing the following files, rendered at your requested resolution:

  • Final Master File (High-resolution WAV)
  • Streaming Optimized File (320kbps MP3)
  • Instrumental Master (if provided in the original mix)
  • A brief processing report documenting the primary technical adjustments made

Post-delivery revisions are handled in accordance with our Terms of Use, ensuring the final result aligns with your artistic vision.

Timeline and Scheduling

Standard turnaround time is 3 to 5 business days from the date we receive your files. For urgent projects, please contact us to check current availability and discuss expedited scheduling.

If revisions are requested, we typically provide the updated version within 2 to 3 business days. Generally, the entire process from initial request to final delivery takes between one and ten days, depending on the complexity of the project and the number of revisions.

What Is Not Included

Mastering assumes a "finished mix." Therefore, the following tasks fall outside the scope of this specific service:

  • Adjusting individual instrument levels or panning (this is part of Mixing)
  • Removing background noise or correcting pitch/timing errors in the recording
  • Structural changes to the song or arrangement suggestions
  • Physical CD pressing or graphic design for packaging

If your project requires adjustments at the track level, we recommend our comprehensive mixing services.

Pricing and VAT

Our pricing is set per track. All prices are subject to the Japanese consumption tax (10%). For B2B clients, payment is required within 14 days of the invoice date.

Mastering FAQ

What is the difference between mixing and mastering?

Mixing is the process of adjusting individual tracks (vocals, drums, bass) to create a balanced stereo file. Mastering is the process of taking that single stereo file and optimizing its overall tone and loudness to make it ready for commercial distribution.

How many revisions are included?

To ensure your complete satisfaction, Quemadozone provides up to 3 rounds of revisions. Please note that significant changes to the original mix may require a re-mastering fee, as detailed in our Terms of Use.

Who owns the rights to the mastered file?

The master rights belong to the client once payment is settled in full (100%). For more detailed information on ownership and options, please see our guide: Master Rights and Options.

How do I book a session?
