Mixing: Unifying Sonic Fragments into a Cohesive Work
We organize individual recorded tracks and optimize frequency bands to unlock the inherent energy and emotion of your music. In our Nagoya studio, our engineers approach every single sound with precision and artistic responsibility.
Mixing is far more than simply adjusting volume levels. It is the process of constructing the narrative of a song. We work meticulously to ensure the vocals reach the listener's heart directly, the drums provide a rock-solid foundation, and the subtle ornamental sounds are placed in their perfect spatial position. At Quemadozone, we combine a modern digital environment with an analog approach to build a soundstage that aligns with your artistic intent, regardless of the genre.
We deeply respect the passion you poured into your recording. Rather than erasing individuality through excessive processing, we focus on removing unnecessary noise and frequency collisions—known as masking—to reveal the natural brilliance of each instrument. By working in the serene environment of Nagoya, we maintain the focus required to deliver a mix that balances commercial density with sonic transparency.
The Mixing Process: 4 Essential Steps
Organization & Cleaning
We examine the provided multi-tracks to remove unwanted noise, perform subtle timing adjustments, and verify phase coherence. This foundational work determines the final audio quality.
Balance & Spatial Construction
We establish the volume balance and build the stereo image through panning. Using reverb and delay, we add the appropriate depth and width suited to the mood of the track.
Dynamics & Tone Optimization
We control the sonic pressure with compressors and resolve frequency conflicts via EQ. We enhance vocal clarity and ensure tight low-end frequencies to avoid listener fatigue.
Final Validation & Export
We verify the mix across various listening environments—monitors, headphones, and smartphones. After final tweaks, we export the stems and the final mix-down in the requested formats.
Who is this service for?
Our mixing services are designed for artists and production teams with specific sonic needs. Firstly, it is ideal for those who have completed recording in a home studio or small facility but feel the result lacks professional density or separation. When individual sounds are good but the overall composition feels disjointed or the focal point is blurred, an engineer's objective perspective is essential for reconstruction.
We also cater to those seeking industry-standard sound balances for specific genres such as Pop, Rock, Jazz, or Electronica. Furthermore, for podcasters and voice-over creators who need to make the speaker's voice stand out while harmonizing perfectly with background music, we provide high-precision mixing techniques.
How the workflow operates
The process begins with the transmission of data from the client. Based on the "reference tracks" (songs that represent your target sound) provided, our engineer analyzes the direction of the piece. We then create an initial mix and present it to you. At this stage, we gather feedback regarding volume balance and spatial width.
At Quemadozone, we limit mixing revisions to 3 rounds. This ensures a focused workflow and prevents the project from drifting, allowing us to reach the finished version efficiently. For the most accurate adjustments, we encourage specific feedback, such as "at 1 minute 20 seconds, please bring the vocals slightly more forward."
What the client needs to prepare
To ensure a smooth progression, we ask for the following preparations. First, multi-track data exported as individual files (WAV format, 44.1kHz/24bit or higher recommended). Each file should be clearly named, for example, "Kick," "Snare," or "Vocal_Main." Additionally, the tempo (BPM), time signature, and key of the song are mandatory.
Furthermore, please provide 2-3 reference tracks to communicate the desired sonic texture. Sharing concrete examples reduces the number of revisions and shortens the path to your ideal sound. If there are specific instruments you wish to emphasize or elements you prefer to keep subtle, providing these as a written brief is highly appreciated.
Deliverables and outcomes
Upon completion of the mixing process, we deliver the following files. In addition to the main mix-down file (in WAV and MP3 formats), we provide "stem files" which are invaluable for future mastering or remixing. Stems are grouped files, such as a "drum group," "bass group," or "vocal group."
All files are exported maintaining the sampling rate of the original recordings. For detailed information on delivery specifications, please refer to our Guide to File Formats and Delivery. This ensures that the subsequent mastering engineer has an optimal starting point.
Deadlines and scheduling
The standard turnaround time is approximately 7 to 10 business days from the receipt of data and agreement on direction. However, if the track count is exceptionally high or requires complex editing (such as pitch correction or timing alignment), we will discuss a separate quote and timeline.
Once a revision request is received, we typically submit the updated version within 2-3 business days. To maintain efficiency, we ask that all feedback be compiled and sent in a single communication.
What is NOT included
This service is specifically for "Mixing." Therefore, it does not include the re-recording of parts. It is often impossible to completely remove critical recording errors, such as clipped audio or extreme environmental noise. Additionally, detailed pitch correction (such as advanced "Auto-Tune" style editing) or full timing quantization are considered separate editing services and incur additional costs.
Furthermore, "Mastering"—the process of bringing the final audio pressure to commercial standards—is a separate stage. If you wish to further polish your mix, we recommend our Mastering service.
Pricing and VAT
Mixing fees are generally set per "track" (per song). The prices listed include the 10% Japanese consumption tax (VAT) and show the price excluding tax for transparency. For B2B transactions, the payment term is 14 days from the date of the invoice.
In cases of extreme track counts (e.g., orchestral recordings exceeding 100 tracks), the workload increases significantly, and we will provide a custom quote. For detailed terms of use, please review our Terms of Use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, the standard plan includes up to 3 rounds of revisions. This encourages clear direction and efficient completion. Revisions beyond the third round, or major changes in direction (such as changing the reference track), will incur additional fees.
Absolutely. Data transfer is handled via cloud storage, and feedback is exchanged via email or chat. However, you are always welcome to visit our Nagoya studio to review the mix with the engineer in real-time.
Stems are grouped mix files, such as "drums only," "bass only," or "vocals only." These are critical for synchronized playback during live performances or when sending the project to a different engineer for mastering.
We perform standard noise reduction during the mixing stage. However, if the audio was clipped during recording or if the environmental noise is too loud, complete removal is impossible. In such cases, we recommend re-recording the part.
